SPEEDBONE

If permission has not been granted by the frame manufacturer to mount the Rohloff SPEEDBONE or the support bolt through the disc brake mount, then mounting of the OEM2 versions is at your own risk.

Frames with disk brake mounts of international standard (IS 2000) can replace the use of the long torque arm with an OEM2 axle plate and a support bolt. For use in conjunction with a disc brake, a SPEEDBONE or a SPEEDBONE Gustav M must also be mounted.
The Speedbone enables a rider to have a disc brake caliper installed while using the ISO brake mount to react the axle torque into the frame. The Speedbone is not compatible with post mount type calipers such as Hayes or Avid.

Axle Plates

The axle plate is included with the purchase of the hub, however there are different versions that exist. This page describes the different axle plates available for the Speedhub and to which application they are appropriate.
The axle plate is a part that bolts to the non drive side of the axle of the Speedhub. Its purpose is to transmit the reaction torque of the Speedhub to the bicycle frame. The mechanics of a planetary geared hub produce a torque on the hub axle that needs to be reacted by the frame so that the axle does not spin in the dropouts during pedaling. The torque is significant enough that friction between the hub locknuts and frame alone are not adequate to constrain it completely, therefore a lever arm mechanism has been devised. Rohloff has developed different lever arm designs that are a universal fit, require special dropouts, or interface with an existing disc brake mount. Some of these designs allow easier wheel installation/removal while some are aesthetically cleaner looking. The different designs are described below:

Axle Plate OEM 1

The OEM 1 Axle Plate comes in both quick release (CC) and threaded axle (TS) versions. This axle plate reguires specially designed dropouts. The OEM 1 incorporates a tab that interfaces with a specially designed dropout to constrain the hub axle.

Axle Plate OEM 2

The OEM 2 Axle Plate also comes in both quick release and threaded axle versions. This axle plate requires an international standard (ISO) disc brake mount on the frame. The OEM 2 has an open slot on its end. This slot interfaces with the head of a bolt that is installed to the international standard disc brake mount on the frame. If a disc brake is installed, the Speedbone attachment is also required. The Speedbone mounts to the ISO disk brake mount along with the caliper and provides a "peg" for the OEM 2 Axle Plate to interface with that is out of the way of the caliper.

Aftermarket Axle Plate (Torque Arm)

The Axle Plate designated as "Aftermarket" is the universal application solution. A long torque arm that interfaces with the chainstay bolts to the Aftermarket Axle Plate. Available in both quick release and threaded axle versions.
